IPET, the Institute of Professional Engineering Technologists, annually awards the best BTech engineering student at each University of Technology as well as the best student country wide. The choice is made on the basis of academic achievement.

IPET aims to reward engineering students for academic excellence and the award is the highest honour that an engineering student at a University of Technology in South Africa can achieve at BTech level. It is therefore a highly sought after award.

The IPET awards for 2011/12 were held at the Southern Sun OR Tambo Hotel.

Ms Anna-Marie Basson (neé Claassen), former Industrial Engineering student at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) and wela member was awarded the IPET National Top BTech Engineering graduate award.
